  Songkran 2007

Day 1 - April 12, 2007
Day 2 - April 13, 2007
Day 3 - April 14, 2007
Day 4 - April 15, 2007

Day 1 - April 12, 2007:

Technically, Songkran starts Friday the 13th (scary coincidence I might add) but the festivities began a day early this year. The gunners, freezing cold tiny pales of water, and powder people set up their barricade at the entrance to Nana Plaza as they normally do. I was better prepared this year putting all my water-non-resistant valuables in NASA approved vacuum tight plastic containers and wearing my Kona Coffee rain gear. I made it through the gauntlet unscathed.

I took the photos below from the Mango balcony mostly. Out of harms way although I was the victim of a sneak attack. As usual, the most amusing parts are when the people who don't want to get wet get soaked and of course the evasion tactics and maneuvers of dodging Ladyboys. They inevitably get soaked as they flail away. Hilarious. BTW, the soaking stops in Nana Plaza around 6:00pm so you are safe from a soaking shortly thereafter. Some pics: (apologies that I took these with my cameraphone)

Day 2 - April 13, 2007:

Most shops closed today, officially the first day of Songkran, so many folks were freed up to wreak havoc and naturally they did. Suk Soi 4 by Nana Plaza was jumping today. It was packed with people dancing, celebrating and getting soaked. The pics below were taken from the Mango balcony on the 2nd floor in Nana Plaza and also from outside our kitchen overlooking Suk Soi 4. I luckily discovered this vantage point while checking our gas line into the kitchen. A birdseye view of Ladyboy D-Cup Cleavage popped into my sight. I couldn't help it. They are still D-Cup sized breasts after all. Turned out to be a great pirch for shots of the action.

Day 3 - April 14, 2007:

Songkran busted out today on Suk Soi 4. It was mayhem and great fun. Sorry to be so focused on Suk Soi 4 but I've been confined here due to some staff shortages. Sure, I could have woken up early and went to Soi Cowboy, Patpong or Koh Sahn Road but the whole waking up early part put the kabosh on that. Those other areas are way crazier from the reports I've been getting. Soi Cowboy leading the way. Nighttime everything returns to normal pretty much. After Hours places have been shutting down 3:30-4:00 but it's getting later every night. Butterfly Man and Two Little People lead the way with the Day 3 Photos:

Day 4 - April 15, 2007:

As you can see from the photos below Songkran is coming to an end. BOOM, just as I was writing this a wicked fight broke out on Soi 4. About 20 young Thai guys going at it throwing bottles and beating the crap out of each other. One guy fled and left his motorcycle behind. Big mistake as it got pummeled by the enemy. One guy was also pretty bloody. I had the perfect vantage point to video the whole thing but my battery went dead. I hate it when that happens. The staff said it was better I didn't shoot anyway because you shouldn't shoot video of bad things. I guess they are right especially if the Police got the video and the guys who probably didn't want to be videotaped found out I took the video. Buddha was looking after me today.
