The page below was maintained during the construction phase of the new Big Mango Bar. June 3rd, 2008 was our soft opening and marked the end of this page. It was quite a ride but we made it fixing stuff up until the opening hour. Thanks to everyone who supported us and I hope you all enjoy the bar.

On this page we will detail with pics and blurbs the little journey being taken to get the bar up and running. We started the "Rising from the ashes" diary today to show the progress being made with the building of the new Mango bar. Along the way we will add photos, descriptions, and maybe even some of the design drawings. This first pics are the front of the building on soi Mango taken a few weeks earlier and the second floor.

Still no progress due to Songkran hangovers. Had a very loud discussion with our Contractor as we lost a day and a half. He promised overtime and more employess which hopefully won't eff up the quality. We'll have to take it day by day to get back on schedule.

The long steel enforced concrete poles from yesterday were inserted into the big holes today to solidify the foundation. Took about twenty guys to do it.

Logistics issue today. Bar too long on one side, needs to be chopped a bit so there is room for the Pool table. D'oh! Bathroom tiles going up.

Another logistics issue today. They ignored the picture of the wheelchair friendly bathroom so walls had to come down. The walls they just finished tiling unfortunately. It's back on track now and will be a lovely and spacious bathroom when finished. I would say "don't get any ideas about doing naughty things in the bathroom" but I'd be wasting my time given the experiences I heard about in the old Mango bathroom. Also today on Construction Porn TV, first glimpses of the bar top and the outside second floor area getting a brick face.

A visit to the site by some ex-Old Mango new-New-Mango employees Nid and Oh. Also, some woodwork done but not sure what it is or where it's going. We'll see I guess.

Old Mango bar equipment slowly making it's way out of storage, the mysterious wooden structure from yesterday found a home, more tiles for the bathroom and more bricks for the entrance.

Not such a great idea taking a photo with flash while power tools are being used. After I took this first photo, the guy with the power saw said "Ohh, Dtok Jai" which basically means I scared the shit out of him. I apologized. Second pic you can see the old Big Mango black granite bar being put to use as shelving for the Computers.
