The Boys are back in town!

Posted by Daywalker | Blog, General, Main | Posted on October 16th, 2011

Chaps,  November is just around the corner and we have a few things going on.  But first off,  a mention on the Halloween party at the Mango on 29th October.  A more detailed announcement will be made next week, so watch this space.

Our new party room will be in full swing.. scary looking girls on poles! Details to follow.

A lot of talk on the blog about people who are going to be here in November. It’s only right that we have some form of gathering, a chance to meet folk in person, and dare I say it – experience our new party room that was expedited to be ready for these November events.

Love him or hate him, YP will be arriving on the 4th November.  DW will be personally picking up the little runt from Mother Penfold in the UK and flying with him to Bangkok.  He will be arriving after DW though, about 30ft after him!   ;)

Fuuuuuuuck that hurt. Casanovas here I come.

1st stop will be the Mango to have some decent food as (I imagine) the food on the plane is total shite.  Then it’ll be a Nana run to catch up on local updates look at girls that will at some point during November – hate us!   Take notes of girls that want to party and where they are.  I am sure a BJ bar will be on the list also.

On the 5th, The one and only pmmp will join us.  Holding a wad of cash that could choke a dozen donkeys we have pledged to flood the Mango party room with AT LEAST 20 girls from various gogo’s.  Refer to notes from the night before. (No L.B’s)

We’ll round up the girls in the evening – ready for a major session on Sat night.  It’s not a formal party, so don’t expect a feeding!

There will be a tower of free flavoured Vodka shots for Bloggers. (it’s horrible, but strong) – Join us!

On the 6th… I think the best way to recover would be a group visit to one of the Soapies that everyone is talking about, before re-launching ‘Coyote Sunday’.  We can relax and talk shit whilst we make a serious dent in their 2 for 1 Pitcher of Margaritas offer.

That’s about as far as we get.  Many of us will be around for a while, but plans don’t always go according to plan.  Feel free to submit suggestions and times  here.  You’re all old hands at this… let’s try making this memorable November.

For any Aussies joining us.. we expect the ‘Movember’ to be seen.

Team Mango

Hearing a lot about the flood waters over there (BKK), is it as bad as they say or is it just a larger version of songkram.
Sounds like a great November Party

    Ron:

The situation outside of Bangkok: More than 350 people dead, thousands forced from their homes, rice fields dead, industrial estates (factories) underwater, tens of thousands with no work, shortages of food & water, transportation breakdowns, roads closed, people living in shelters, damage to property in the billions of baht.

    It’s definitely not Songkran.

The situation in Bangkok: the water is lapping at the edges of the city. People are being told to expect flooding in the coming days that may last for several weeks as a lake a meter deep and the size of England makes its way to the sea through the flood plain where Bangkok is built.

The shelves in 7-11 are empty and the owner (CP) has posted signs throughout saying that they apologize, but that suppliers are shut down, trucks can’t deliver, and they are doing what they can to re-establish supply lines.

Outside of BKK it’s bad. Inside of BKK it’s currently okay, but probably won’t stay that way for long. I spent a day last week helping a friend who has a townhouse near Don Meuang airport move everything to the top floor of her townhouse in anticipation of having a meter of water in her living room sometime in the next week.

Most Thai people are seeing a big hole punched in their lives, homes and businesses.

So, yes, it is as bad as they say.

I’m sure there are lots of sources for flood photos, but here’s one post that will give you a feel for just how bad it is:

You forgot to add “… as usual”.

Not seeing their favorite “sent from heaven” political ruling party doing squat to help the people, either — which is the most criminal part.

  14. Werewolf says:

    From Bangkok Pundit website (http://asiancorrespondent.com/author/bangkokpundit/):

First, an ABAC poll released on Sunday of 2,513 people in 19 provinces nationwide between October 1-15 where one of the questions asked people to rate their satisfaction of their performance out of 10 for agencies/entities and people who have helped to solve problems/issues [arising from] the floods (แสดงค่าเฉลี่ยคะแนนความพอใจต่อหน่วยงานและคณะบุคคลต่างๆ ที่ช่วยแก้ปัญหาน้ำท่วมของประชาชน(เมื่อคะแนนเต็ม 10 คะแนน)) and the score for the government was 8.6.*

Second, a NIDA poll released on October 19 which surveyed 881 people affected by the floods in various provinces. One of the questions asked those to rate their satisfaction out of 10 with various agencies/entities who helped those affected by the floods The government scored 8.35. Also, overall 69% of people had received assistance.

Given the efforts to manage water, build or reinforce dykes, send supplies, boats, equipment & food to affected areas, along with bringing in foreign experts and helicopters to assist in managing the problem, and the deployment of Thai military and even prisoners to try to control the flood waters, while also coordinating with banks, companies and NGOs to organize future post-flood recovery assistance I think it’s hard to justify the idea that the government is “doing squat”.

Thailand is flooded. News reports say the rains this year are the worst in over 50 years (apparently the heaviest since 1948). There’s no giant sponge available to make the water go away, so in the absence of a silver-bullet fix, the government has to assist people in many ways, and the evidence suggests that is happening. There have been fumbles in the handling of this very real crisis, but there is certainly action being taken by government, NGOs, and private citizens. As in most crises, things could be done better, but things are being done.

Raider – That top picture is pretty fucked up. The others? Meh. Not so much. Just a bunch of peasants floating on logs and driftwood. Some chick on my Facebook, put an ariel shot of some Fresh Prince of BelAir style crib in up in Pathum Thani, that was over a metre deep in shit. Im sure it linked out to a website. Ill try and dig it out. Surreal as fuck picture

@ Werewolf, thanks for the info and was lazy on my part not to check it out myself, we are limited here at the mines and don’t get out much. No ridicule intended on the flood situation, just heard 1/3 of Thailand under water/affected. Real bad news

  18. Werewolf says:

Ron: glad to be of service. It’s easy to sit in the middle of Sukhumvit at the moment and feel like it’s all happening on another planet. Things here feel very normal aside from piles of sandbags in front of ever shop and building. The past few weeks have shown that things change quickly though.

The number that I read the other day was that we had 4 billion cubic meters of water descending on BKK (I read that to mean that this amount would arrive in a single day) while the ability to clear water is 400 million cubic meters. Dunno how accurate that info was (a lot of what is printed/announced/broadcast during this situation has been very unreliable) but those figures, if approximately correct, indicate the problem we’re facing. Bangkok has been flooded at least twice in my lifetime (though I wasn’t here either time … 1983 and 1995 if I read the sources correctly). I get the sense that, like this time, the loss of life and property damage was greatest outside the capital, and that in BKK it was more of a temporary inconvenience (especially in 95), but I may be reading too little or two much into the stories I’ve looked at.

Maybe these stats taken from a news commentary piece earlier this week will offer some enlightenment:

    HOW LONG WAS BANGKOK FLOODED?

1983: Four months, September to December.

1995: Two months, October to November.

    NUMBER OF PEOPLE AFFECTED

1983: More than 400 dead, 55 in Bangkok, plus tens of thousands of familes displaced and more than 17,000 homes destroyed.

1995: More than 400 dead, 2.6 million people affected in Bangkok, a further 1.68 nationwide, 60,000 relocated.

    DAMAGE TO INFRASTRUCTURE

1983: 400 million baht damage to farmlands and orchards in Bangkok, 200,000 houses in housing estates in Bangkok’s eastern suburbs, 462 million baht in damage to roads in Bangkok.

1995: 26 major roads severely damaged, more than 70 rai of farmland was estimated to have been hit hard.

    DAMAGE TO THE ECONOMY

    1983: 6.6 billion baht.

1995: Tens of billions of baht.

The fact is, no one seems to know just how bad the situation will be a day from now or a month from now. The past two months, however, have been pretty brutal for areas to the north and NE.

Yesterday morning I was greeted by YP and Jonas with a vodka and coke. I’d have preferred some cornflakes, but I didn’t want to complain. After all, there are millions of kids in Africa who don’t have vodka, so I should be grateful.

In the bar was couple of great guys here. They were just having a quiet drink as they had business to sort. When YP showed his face from upstairs, he was instantly recognized as the oik and we all had a few drinks. Sorry guys if we messed any of your plans up!

Now sitting in the bar licking my wounds… Debtstar just walked through the door looking for action!! What a guy!

Wednesday night we are doing a little regroup in the Mango… a few gogo runs… nothing too heavy, but a chance to hook with each and all to exchange war stories.
