Big Mango Bar Update!
Posted by admin | Big Mango Bar, Blog, General, Main, Posts | Posted on October 6th, 2011
Many of you will know that the Mango Bar has been going through a bit of a change. The changes are still on going in the quest to provide our customers with a nice relaxing, entertaining, quiet, buzzing, respectable, naughty party, venue. Not as easy as it sounds…
You said -
“we like a more variety of food. Not just burgers”
We responded -
Done. Our new Chef is from a very reputable Hotel chain. We now offer a larger selection of food – Thai dishes also. Check out our Specials Board in the bar. Fancy something different? Just ask!
You said -
“We want staff that can be barfined in order to spend more time with them away from work”
We responded-
Well, 1st of all we had to find staff that will always be on hand to keep the place going. Next up was to recruit more staff to interact with the customers. It took a little time, but we now have more staff to keep the customers company. – We’re still recruiting.
You said -
“I used to come in and have breakfast, but you closed in the daytime”
We responded -
Sorry for that, low season gets worse every year. Opening daytime as well as night time requires 2 sets of staff. Dayshift and evening shift. During low season, not many customers around in the daytime, so the staff (understandably) don’t want to work the day-shift. So, we put our heads together and spend a few baht and now have a happy dayshift during the low season. Breakfast is now served when we open the doors at 10am
You said -
“it’s not fair that I have to smoke outside in the street”
We responded -
It’s the law unfortunately. However, we did knock some walls down and create a smoking area that is still part of the bar, with music, TV and seating area so you are still part of the bar and not in the street
You said -
“ahh, but I like playing pool whilst I smoke”
We responded -
There is now a pool table outside in the smoking area!
You said -
“we like Jonas from the original Mango Bar”
We responded -
We got him back!
You said -
“the music is crap”
We responded -
“we agree!” – We’ve now updated our playlists and got rid of all that kiddy-pop crap. Rock music, some 50′s, 60′s, 70′s will be played downstairs and the dance type music will be upstairs – where the girls and boys can have a little dance!
Our Staff said -
“the kitchen is too small”
We responded -
Have a new kitchen, twice the size of the old one
Staff also said -
“we want to freedom to wear what we want (sexy)
We responded -
Great, we no longer have to pay for uniforms
Some girl carrying a new born baby said-
“where the hell is pmmp?”
We Responded -
Not another one…..
At the Mango, we listen to customer feedback and try our best to cater for everyone.
We have all new staff, we have a different bar layout and as of this weekend, the 2nd floor will take on a totally new look. We’ve a new bar up there.. dancing area/poles.. sofas… and of course – there will be girls! For those of you that remember the Tequila Dragon on 7/1 – think that kind of theme.
On Fridays and Saturdays Gin, Vodka, Rum, Whiskey and Tequila shorts will be offered at 69bht. Let’s call it the 69 Night?!
We have some interesting parties coming up, one of which will be a foam party. Too old for that? Well, think about the scantily clad girls that will be hidden in the foam somewhere. We will also have some Coyote dancers… dancing and didn’t someone mention there is a new Star Trek film coming soon?
Thanks to everyone who has been assisting us with ideas and feedback through this change. Spats, Doc Bond, Jonas, THE MAN, prp, James S,Bubba and others who I can’t name as I’ve forgotten. None of this would have been possible without our special Team Leader – Kwan!
Pictures will be posted shortly when the painting has finished.
Hope to see you there soon.
Team Mango

After I rebuild that orphanage brick-by-brick up in Nakon Rachasima, and I complete my fun-run from Nong Khai to Hat Yai, (dressed as a 6 foot hotdog) to raise money the gender reassignment charity I have recently founded with Poodle, I shall try my very best to swing by the bar, for a soft drink and a bowl of Tom Yam, in November.

i’ll be by early Nov to check out too, sans hotdog costume…

As a man of means, I have sponsored Penfold’s hot dog run (tee hee) to the tune of 1 satang for every 5km completed, and in addition if he completes the whole 1600 km run I’ll throw in a Cascades barfine on top of my generous contribution to his charity. And I’ll almost surely be by the Mango in November.

Sooo, how exactly IS the weather around Guy Fawkes Night in the City of Angels??

Its the things that I *DO* remember at Tequila Dragon that makes the idea of the 2nd floor that makes me nervous.
I popped in earlier this week and it was good to see the place crowded and noisy and a healthy gaggle of girls. Disappointed to see that you did not get the escalator fitted so THE MAN can get upstairs for the foam party
@RickMasters, get your dates sorted, yo!

Don’t worry spats. I am sure there will not be any L.B’s following you into the toilets and keeping you ‘busy; for 20 mins at the Mango.
No need to be nervous

Wow, your customers bitch and moan about a lot of things. Best of luck with the changes.

Interesting, I always sit downstairs and most of the time get a burger and be bored to death so now I guess this means that I will just go to the 2nd floor now and bypass the first floor.
I always thought that Tu and Jackie preferred the days shift and would work a double (also the night shift) when they wanted some xtra. Guess I was wrong

Congratulations on all the improvements – you guys sure have a funny way of going out of business.

8-Ball….
We’ve made some changes downstairs also – with additional staff also and right now I am looking to install a new laptop for customer use. The old machines are a bit old and battered. We have a new music library as well on it’s way so hopefully it’ll liven up the 1st floor.
I’d still use the 1st floor for the sport and food. The second floor – well, we wouldn’t want you spilling sauce down your shirt as it’s a little dark up there.
Hope you like the changes.
As for the old staff… well, I have many tales I could tell you, but no good will come of it. Lets just say we have all new staff for a very good reason!

Dancing area, poles and foam? When did YP get back in town?

My breakfast is usually 3:30-4-30pm-is the Ommlette still available then?

Music Library? Just hook your sound system to a PC and run Pandora on it, or Spotify, and play away.

Nice thought… but the wifi/internet connection is not too reliable.
iPods thingy’s are much easier – plus customers are welcome to plug in their phones/mp3 players if they wanna get down and boogie to their fave tunes.
Besides, I’ve spent a long time compiling the playlists… better bloody use them!

It would be nice to have an assistant massage your neck while pissing and pass out heated hand towels after washing in the toilet.

Sounds like my suggestion for a glory hole installed in the toilet got passed over.
Spats you told me that idea was locked in God damn it!
View all comments by Rick Masters
@ Pablo – Send me your C.V. or apply in person
@ RM – Why would you want a glory hole in toilets that are for both sexes?
You could be in one and YP could be in the other. Is that a risk you’re willing to take?

Penfold says: “After I rebuild that orphanage brick-by-brick up in Nakon Rachasima, and I complete my fun-run from Nong Khai to Hat Yai, (dressed as a 6 foot hotdog) to raise money the gender reassignment charity….”
That must be a typo… I’m sure he meant a FOUR-foot hot dog.

@rickmasters: I was concerned that the glory hole was positioned way too low for you to kneel in comfortably. Sorry bud….

Sounds awesome, guys. Except for the no more kiddy-pop part. More k-pop please.

TONIGHT!!!!! will see our new 2nd floor in action. Selected drinks (vodka/Gin/Rum/Whiskey etc) at 69bht each. Go-go girls will be up there having a bit of a boogie. If you’re around, come take a look.
Apologies to the guys that came to the bar last night looking for some ‘action’ up there. Fridays and Saturday are the party nights!

Any danger of drinkable coffee being available in the morning with breakfast?
View all comments by The Lurcher
Oh I will be there in November too, in two weeks in fact, weather permitting.

Funny you mention the coffee… as this morning I instructed my little wench to head out in the rain (with pics) and buy a coffee machine.
She returned empty handed – except for a new pair of shoes, saying she couldn’t the coffee maker.
I may have to buy one in the UK and have YP stuff it in his suitcase when he comes over in 3 weeks time.
Unless anyone can tell me where I can pick up a decent little coffee machine in Bangers?

Has the action moved to the second floor, due to the risk of foot rot on the ground floor?

@DW; Emporium has a great selection but at a handsome price. I’ve got a DeLonghi Magnifica espresso maker ($750 USD) and they wanted 40k THB? But having the option for a freshly brewed cup by cup espresso/americano..etc, you could actually turn a decent profit if you sold them at 50 or 75 baht a pop?
Just a thought! I spend 300 to 600 baht a day on coffee at the Parrot cafe Suk soi 16 while in BKK…

nR – For $750 I’d want the thing to suck me off and clean my apartment.

OH! did I forget to mention it does?

DW – My suitcase will be chock full of £20 notes, L’Oreal hair wax, fruit flavoured arse lube and multi coloured underpants. A coffee machine will be a tight squeeze. Ill pilfer a few sachets of instant Kenco from my office kitchen if you want?

YP – Thanks for fook all!
I’ll just have to use the “two items of hand luggage’ allowance we have in Biz Class then.

Dr. BJ’s Salon opening the 20th?!
Hmmm…
Let me check my calendar.
I may have to slip in after work and break in Nurse Dii pand-long for the Grand Opening. (http://bjbarbangkok.com/staff.html)
She looks like she is just panting for a crack at the wolfmeister.

A decent simple drip coffee machine cost less than 30 quid with a mesh filter not paper filters……………… no need for wanky, chromy, expensive, noisy, gizmo. Good Luck with the new start and refurb. I shall be there in my usual incognito mode

Oh has anyone tried the new BJ bar on Soi 12…………….Lolipops?
View all comments by The Lurcher
Thanks Lurcher… can you tell me where to find such item? I sent my girl out with a pile of cash in search of a basic coffee machine and she came back with 2 pairs of jeans and an iPhone 6 or something. She said…”coffee machine, shop no haaab”
She’s off to Lobinsons tomorrow. Hopefully that’ll not cost me too much and I’ll get my coffee machine.
My pal has been to Lollipop. Wasn’t too impressed. Can’t see business at Lolitas ‘drying up’ anytime soon.
I went there the other month but was scared off my the over-keen trog wanting to slurp my todge.

Just for the record, I just stopped by with high hopes for a Mango Muffin and they told me they don’t have breakfast. What gives?
View all comments by Jeruthdamaja5
- yeah, sorry about that. We’re actually having a little trouble sourcing many food items at the moment due to the floods. Muffins are apparently a specialty item.
Either that or the new cook doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing?

for the record, I would like to re-introduce the scratch and sniff under ware dispenser idea for coding the staffers as to their barfine-ability and availability? So as not to place the seeing impaired punters such as myself at a disadvantage to being able read those silly name/number badges! Works for most others in the kingdom Animalia why not the Mango? Ok I’m done now, carry on…

rolled in last night, great to see @pmmp and @daywalker. Even better to see the bar back in the correct position, completely changes the vibe of the place for the better.

@spats, yeah moving was a good thing except if you were there the night before and no one says anything about it the next day? I walked in and thought I’d completely lost my mind, sat there for a good 30min. shooting the shit with the boys when I finally asked and of course Jonas looks at me like I’m from Mars, denying anything had changed!
haha…
