Best English Breakfast in the World? by On Nutter

[Editor's Note: This was sent as an email from On Nutter to some of his buddies that appreciate a good English Breakfast. You have to admire the passion.]
For some time now, BBB and I have been engaged in seeking the best English breakfast in Pattaya in terms of quality, quantity and value for money. I think I have finally found the holy grail at Robin’s Nest Restaurant in Soi Diana.
For 149 baht, you get an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast offering trays of back bacon, streaky bacon, pork chops, chicken thighs, big sausages, small sausages, mushrooms, black pudding, fried onions, roast potatoes, real tomatoes, tinned tomatoes, corn on the cob, bubble and squeak, baked beans and sauteed potatoes. There is also cereal and porridge. Eggs are cooked any style to order. You make your own toast with proper thick-sliced bread. A very big mug of tea (coffee is not acceptable with an English breakfast) is included in the price.
I had the breakfast twice on my recent trip and was unable to go back for more after one large plateful. I never even sampled the onions, roast potatoes, tinned tomatoes, corn on the cob and baked beans. I preferred to concentrate on the serious protein. While they may not seem like a breakfast item, chicken thighs worked really well.
This breakfast really pays for itself. I had it at 11am and was unable to eat again until 2am the next day when I had the obligatory chicken kebab on Walking Street. So I saved on lunch and dinner. My friend Alistair was so bloated after sampling it that he had to retire to bed and didn’t emerge until the next day, so he saved money on beer and lady-drinks as well.
And if you eat enough of these breakfasts, you will die prematurely, saving all the money you would have spent over the rest of your life.
I attach pictures as evidence of this breakfast titan.

It must be good if it’s named after the premier British sitcom of the seventies starring the incomparable Richard O’Sullivan

I can’t believe that someone would pay real money for that mess above! They must do that in a part of England that I never saw. In case your interested they sell a tub of Crisco lard in Villa.

Most important question regarding breakfast in Thailand…. is the butter rancid?

I can’t wait to try this, although it doesn’t really mix well with a Pattaya in 12 run. It would have to be on a multi-night trip so the body can heal.
@THE MAN: Mess? For 149 baht, it’s gotta be top of the line stuff their using.
On Nutter didn’t die so it can’t be all that bad. Man, I’m starving.

Most of these breakfast buffets look like something from a military or prison chow line. No?
I guess quantity has a quality all of it’s own.

Reminds me of Primary School, and nasty dinner ladies, but it looks good from snowy England. Agreed, nothing like Prison food.

@ LYB – Finally… someone else who thinks that butter in Thailand always tastes rancid.

You can get a Heineken in Mandarin for the same price and less calories. I know what I’d rather.

Not that long ago, British explorers searched new worlds in pursuit of global dominance. Now, their descendants scour Pattaya for greasy cheap food to avoid having to spend money on other meals.
My question is, “which decline is more rapid and complete – the British of before or the Americans of the present?”
Short essay format, YP typing format will receive a lesser grade.

@ professor> actually you are asking 2 questions not just 1. The answers are
1 The American decline is more rapid
2 The British decline is more complete
We must face the facts and deal with the reality that Western civilization dominence will cease to exist in the next 2 decades

Wow, that is breakfast? Looks like a cheap lunch or dinner buffet not seen in Vegas for those prices since the 70′s!
… was so bloated after sampling it that he had to retire to bed and didn’t emerge until the next day, so he saved money on beer and lady-drinks as well!
Nice! As if that would really be worth it if you didn’t live there, love it!

ON – your piece moved me to go home and make my own fry-up – a pack of 6 rashers of bacon cost me more than your entire meal

@ 8 Ball – Quite true, but the American decline has only had 25 years run so far. Plus, they are starting from a much higher point.
I will not be around to see the wiping up, but I was no there to see the decline of Rome and the Greeks. Somehow, I think that this one will be a whole lot more unpleasant. The Romans at least went quietly.

I still dream of the day that I find a proper Heuvos Rancheros with Chili Verde sauce somewhere in this part of the world. Nothing compares as far as a proper breakfast. Hopefully UnCochinoWetback will agree with me.

Have to agree Hecks. My favs include the Hatch Green Chile Breakfast Burrito and the Chorizo Skillet. Well, the one’s I had in New Mexico anyway. Finest breakfast grub in the world. UCW does know his eats so we’ll see if we hear from the Brown Pride Monger. He may still be celebrating Cain’s destruction of Lesnar, and I think he still needs to collect on his bet with YP.

I’ll have some Costa Rican black beans and rice, Chorizo, Salsa and a couple of eggs with tortillas and a couple of mugs of real coffee.
