Shortchanged by pmmp

I went on a gogo run last night with one of the crazy swedes. We went to about eight gogos on Cowboy and Nana and I was shocked that we got shortchanged in 2 out of 8 gogos. First time, they forgot the 500 baht on giving them 1000. Second time, they forgot 100 baht on giving them 500 baht. These were one drink and out deals, so I’m surprised they would even attempt a scam, although we were drunk I guess.
Both times, they acknowledged the mistake and quickly gave us the correct change, but I am wondering if this is happening to others?
Has anybody else experienced this recently?
As always, keep an eye on the tickets going into your bin. Don’t be shy to take them out of the cup and look at them every so often. Be aware of what you give them, and even get confirmation from them on what you are handing them, and then of course check your change. Common sense, but sometimes hard to do when smashed, which I’m sure they are counting on.
Maybe they were just mistakes, but given that both bars were not that busy, and that it happened twice in the same night, it has me wondering. Anyway, this is just more awareness to keep an eye on things I guess.

I used to find one of the Cowboy gogo’s used to load up my bin whilst I was being a naughty boy in the corner.
I give that place a wide birth now.
- I find ‘twins’ much better value

Ahhh, the old two-drink lady drink, tequilla and coke usually, and done when you are otherwise occupied. Asswipes.
Speaking of Twins, I think it was closed last night. I’ll have to check again since I just casually glanced over and where I thought there was supposed to be Twins girls outside licking their chops, there were none and it was closed up. I will confirm on my next Cowboy run.

1 place Ive been shortchanged a few times is Nana BTS station. I’ve gone to break a 500/1000 note at the change kiosk, and the cunts have tried to swizz me out of a red note. Once you can forgive, but its happened maybe 3-4 times now. The thieving fuckers should have their thieving fucking hands cut off
On the subject of gogos, last night I got stung for the ‘2 ladydrink minimum’ at Bacarra, before I could barfine my whore of choice. Bit of a shitty rule, but I bought into it. I showed my displeasure with this rule, by rimming the said hooker, viciously for the thick end of an hour, before I tried (and failed) to thumb my disco-dick inside her.

pmmp… I think the girls from Twins may of had a night off to revise for their Uni Exams. I always try to help out by giving them money to spend on text books.
You should all follow suit.

pmmp, care to share the names of these fine establishments??? I’ve had great luck at Cowboy, but then again I’ve had girls barfine themselfs on my tab and we head out to after hours only to awaken the next day with a stranger in my bed and 60 ThB in my wallet and now it’s time to settle up??? Talk about the walk of shame, having to trapes through the Hotel’s lobby in the early AM. with your rode hard, put away wet fare from last night, in search of ATM!!! I hope not alone here???lol

PMMP, let us not be shy about naming the bars, or do you want us all to get burned? Believe me, if that were to happen to me it would be listed on here faster than a speeding bullet, along with the honey’s name or number that tried to do it.

Part of the reason I’m temporarily stuck in Blighty is a legal action against a scummy building company who attempting to scam me out of almost £8k…
Being overcharged by 100 Baht? Yes please !

Name and shame the fuckers. I love a good witch hunt
I barfined a he-bitch from Temptations a few weeks back, and 5 minutes after shelling out 600baht to relieve her of her slutty bar-duties, she got back on stage and carried on dancing.
I queried what the fuck she was doing, and she denied all knowledge of the 600 I gave her. She politely denied my kind offer of breaking her face, and all of a sudden, as if by magic, she remembered the barfine, and away we went into the night
Kind of pissed me off a bit, but I got my own back, in the form of a good, old fashioned grudge fucking

Flying out of BKK airport a few weeks ago got short changed in one establishment – 90 baht – thought, ok fair enough, mistakes happen, and it was rectified on being pointed out. Then half an hour later got short changed 300 baht in a another place! Co-incidence? Hmmm…
On both occasions it was a different member of staff who took the money away to the one who brought back the change, and on neither occasion was there any apology, only a dumb and dumber shrug.
The first bar was Silom cafe and the second one was Mango Tree. Watch out!

There are some seriously fucked units in Twins.

I pay 400baht for a beer here back home.
In a shit bar, full of hero blokes, with maybe 2-3 “ok” girls to look at…Who by the way wouldnt dare talk to a guy.
The keg the beer comes in costs 4000baht, and they make 40,000baht.
I know who’s getting shortchanged.
As an aside…the last gogo girl i took, after displaying so much love and affection upon meeting, suddenly decided she was tired and had to sleep as soon as i got out of the shower back in the hotel.
My question is this: is it somewhat frowned upon to wake a girl up by inserting all manner of bodily things, in all manner of bodily holes??

I didn’t name the bars because you really never know if it was a real mistake or not, so I didn’t want to blacklist a bar because of an honest mistake. Certainly, if it happens again in the same establishment, I will name names. I will try again and let folks know. I did want to raise awareness though, and find out if it was happening to others.
@RickM: You love it. They’ve got your picture up on the “100 cums” wall next to Daywalker’s, actually, under Daywalker’s, who is in the “100 gallons” row. And don’t say they are the same.
@Maz: I’ve heard guys doing both, but mostly I’ve heard of “sprinkling on” rather than inserting, although sometimes they don’t wake from sprinkling, so you’re call.

hey , first of all I miss the old layout!!!!! any other takers.
well i think when thai business calculate their break evens they attribute about 10% of their revenue to shortchanging the customer when looking the other way. However as a result over the last few years the number of people scammed and scorned is ever increasing and they vow never to come back only to be found banging away at nana few months doen the line. I dont know what to make of it except that we all think with our dicks. Amen!!!!

Yes there is a balance between naming and shaming cheats and mistakenly identifying an innocent bar, where an innocent bar staff member made an innocent mistake. But my question is this: Why does the mistake always seems to favour the house? When was the last time you got 500 baht extra in the change? A couple of years ago I wandered up the right hand side of soi cowboy and went in 6-8 bars immediately after Penny Black. All next to each other. I was astonished that all the bars seem to have underchanged me, ordered a drink I had not asked for or practised some similar ruse. OK allowing for the fog of alcohol may be my recollection was mistaken but that is just me being diplomatic. But the funny thing is I think it was the first time in many years that it has happened. I usually always ostentatiously check my check bin and change and bill throughout the course of the evening. I also avoid paying with large notes when possible and I usually state in Thai the amount of the note if it is 500 hundred or more. It is an irritant but no more.

I always make a point of showing the bill I give the server to pay up. Was in Mandarin two weeks ago; flashed a 1000bt note to the server. Back comes the change short 500bt. I politely but sternly reminded her that it was a 1000bt note. Excuse was ‘new cashier’. Yea, right!

It’s become second nature to me to try to break 1000s early in the night at bars at which I’m a regular (and trust the staff), so that I have a nice stack of 500s and 100s later in the night when I’m a) drunker and b) more likely to wander into places I don’t know/trust. I really try to avoid spending 1000 notes in the latter type of place.

Yeah bitching and moaning about it is all good, but has anyone devised a clever retort. Something that only a Thai would truly understand and take offense to??? Like a surprise wet belch, sneeze/fart, or some other Thai faux pas. Aside from the adverse affect on the gratuity…of course?

Hey Penfold, on our next adventure lets hit up a bank before heading out, and get loaded with enough coins to pay a Bacara Jap specialist’s barfine…Imagine the look on her face as we sift through loose change! Hmmmm????

Was at The Honey Pot Patts Soi 2 about 2 years ago. I am a regular there to a degree. Late, inebbriated and had shouted a few lady/staff drinks when I decided to leave. Bill was just short of 2000 bht. Paid the drink wench 2 x 1000 bht notes or so I thought. The cashier came over and gave me back a thousand. Apparently I had given 3. Thanked her very much and told her to split it 50/50 with me. Rare I know. Just lucky I was where I am known. I now check more thoroughly.

NurseRon mentioned the “adverse affect on the gratuity”, which I forgot to mention. In the first case, my buddy left 10 baht. In the second case, I left a clean tip tray. So, it seems they are taking a risk of losing a tip and having a pissed off customer. Yeah, like that will stop them.

Nowadays I avoid giving 1,000 baht notes in go-go bars in Bangkok, since this happens so often. In fact the whole go-go experience in BK is so depressing I rarely ever go. The only place I’ve never been scammed is Pattaya, where I find the girls friendlier, the drinks much cheaper and the atmosphere much more fun. In tough economic times we shouldn’t forget that the Thai solution is to start stealing from customers (go-go bars) and to put prices up (rents and police bribes), not become more competitive.

In these days I tend to favor the Gogos who have printed, electronic bills. I can see the total, and the drinks ordered, and the correct change is printed on the final bill. Hardly ever seen a scam there. So they have my money to compensate for their extra cost to install these computers.

On the subject of getting more change back, I had a right result at the 7/11 a few weeks back
Went in to top up 100baht on my phone, gave the tart on the desk a 1000, and she gave me 10 x 100 baht notes, plus my 100 baht top-up

I’m really disappointed by this piece. With a title like “shortchanged by pmmp” I expected a long-overdue exposé of the scams at the Duke and the Mango.
To add to the boredom of this thread – I have never, ever been shortchanged by a Thai in any capacity. I have been given too much, more than once, and it’s worth the cash to see their expressions when you put it right.

It ain’t all one way traffick Pantsie and no mistake. Nuffin makes me larf more than the time I scammed pimmp wiv the old three hand card trick – he slammed his farking cards down only to see me turn up the farking three of spades – which as yer know under Singapore rules means I takes the pot dunnit. He went farking spare and reached behind the bar for is baseball bat studded with dried mango. Course I hi-tailed it outta there and took a cab to HoolaPingPong station. Clinging to the underside of the suspension I could ‘ear his mobsters walkin up an down the carriages lookin for me an beating up the hawkers as he went. Anyways, at Hua Hin I let go and dropped to the tracks and wandered rand a bit until some kindly geezer in a pink jacket took me in and let me sleep in his basement – gawd bless him. Next morning I jumped a tramp steamer heading for Paraguay and that was the last I saw of pimmp and his murderous gang standing on the quay rattling their chains at me – course I can’t ever farking go back….

I think we all have our stories of being ripped off rotten by the “Mangia”. I remember falling for the old “two for one” con. Like a fool, I bought one and got charged for two, and when I remonstrated with the management they rang the bar bell with my head and I had to fork out for drinks for everybody. But I still like to pop in occasionally to browse their historic collection of newspaper photocopies.

@Sandman – it happens. I was leaving JJ’s the other night with a friend when he started querying his checkbin. I initially thought it was a shortchanging and would have another bar to add to my shitlist, but no, turned out after much explaining in bad Thai that he had been given 700 Baht change from a 500 Baht note. But, yeah, most of the time it is the cashier + service staff tag team ripoff.

Maybe they are honest mistakes. For every time I’ve been overcharged, I’ll believe it’s a mistake when I see an error in my favor. I’m not really holding my breath for that 700 in change when paying with a crisp 500 baht note.
Btw, I always try to have close to exact change, it’s not that hard. Buy a 5 baht water at 7-11 with a 1000, et voila!

I was in a well known go go and in my drunken state spotted that I was 60 baht down on my check bin change. The cheeky good-for-nothings. I howled abuse at the serving wench and all and sundry, what a tardy shameful country this is I screamed. It was then that the now not so friendly serving girl pointed out that I was holding not two 20s but two 50s. The shame. An easy mistake for a drunken farang to make. Count your check bin, but whatch out for those pesky 50s that look like 20s.

The sneaky cunts at Family Mart, by Suk 25 tried to shortchange me by 20baht last night.
Then, I got 50 yards up the road (at the bridge by the Asok California WOW) and some little fuckface tried to pick pocket routine, with the big bags of worthless tatt, and brushing up against me. I told the little thieving cunt, that hes a little thieving cunt, and to fuck off.
Its tempting to chin these pricks, but you never know who is keeping an eye on them. Not worth catching a knife in the skull

as far as a clever retort goes, I always keep several skin whitening coupons in my wallet and lay a few on the tip tray when I’m dissatisfied.

i’ve just got the *u didn’t give me the money* treatment in Pattaya.
Was buying a t-shirt in front of the CaliWOW.
I hand the old isaan gal 100. Then she disappears of my sight –to fetch a small plastic into which she had put my shirt. I thank her and leave.45 secs later i hear ‘mister, mister’. There’s about 7 women surrounding the cheat.
Of course, i quickly throw her a red note. Who cares?
It left a bad taste in the mouth. I refrained to spite my contempt, fortunatly.

Can’t say I’ve had any issues getting short changed – I usually keep track of what I purchased, and count my change. Even in cases where I get carried away, and end up buying drinks for mamasans, service girls, dancers, and what have you, and where I’m worried “Golly, the bill must be 3,000 Baht”, I’m always pleasantly surprised to find it’s only 1,800 Baht or so.

I got shortchanged at the Mango last week, I kid you not.
There was 5 baht missing on my tray, I didn’t mention it.
But maybe you should clean out your house first before you start crucifying others.
