RIP Arthur

Our friend and contributor to the blog, Arthur, has recently passed away. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
Arthur was one of our first customers at the old Big Mango in Nana. He was a retired English chap who spent over ten years working in the California bay area. Still a visitor to Bangkok when we met him, Arthur was seriously considering a permanent move here. Something he eventually did do.
Arthur was an avid photographer. He took thousands of photos of Thailand and really loved taking photos of the beautiful women here. All tasteful photos, and the girls loved him for it as he often email’d them the photos later.
He had a great attitude about life and was in the perfect country for his last years. He had a few favorite bars where he was very popular with the staff. He would always bring gifts for the girls and was very generous with lady drinks.
He ended up with a bargirl who he took out of the bar and then paid for her education. After she graduated, they opened up a business together and were doing very well. He also assisted her friends who were interested in a career outside the bar. Not financially, more like guiding them to make the right choices for what they wanted to do.
It was always a pleasure seeing Arthur, and hearing about some of the volunteer work he was doing. He taught English for free and worked with various other charities in Thailand. He was intelligent and wanted to do good, but didn’t have an attitude and never preached.
Arthur died in the country he loved, doing one of the things he loved most. He was taking photos at Suvarnabhumi Airport and suddenly fell over and died of a heart attack. He was a good man and will be fondly remembered.
He left us with 19 posts that you can read here, and left the people he knew with so much more. RIP Arthur.

Thanks for posting this sad news. I knew Arthur when he lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, always a gentleman and always protective of his friends. RIP indeed.

Sorry to hear about this, but at least he left an impression and helped out in a genuine way. His assistance to others is really interesting. Good on him.
Tupac once said, “I wonder if Heaven got a ghetto?”
so… “I’m wondering if Heaven got a go-go?”
Im sure Arthur is enjoying the other side. Seemed like a good man at heart.
rip.
