Post Party Liver Regeneration
Posted by sideshowBOB | Blog, Reader Submissions | Posted on July 14th, 2009
Yes – it has been a few days since the party finished but things are just getting back to normal. It was another monster night, although we did not break the DW party record – no one went to jail. Given it is slow season and a overall downer of a year it feels good to know we have so many supporters helping to ensure that the Big Mango does more than survive. Appreciation to all of our customers who made it it and we hope the ones who did not will be around some time soon.
Have hit some go-gos and after hours recently. Patpong is a ghost town for the most part. Even places like Twilo and Funky Dojo are empty. Parkbridge is closed and there are rumors that Funky Dojo is headed to the same fate but we have not been able to confirm this. Also it looks like Lucifer is now all boarded up. The casualty list just keeps growing.
Even Cowboy appears to have slowed down a bit but typically July and August can be quite brutal with rays of sunshine starting to show in September. All of this is based on the old high season/low season assumptions which maybe don’t even hold true anymore. At this point it is still tough to even decipher how bad things will get and when there might even be signs of a recovery. Clearly if anything dramatic happens on the political front then all bets are off.
News like this will only hurt is my guess. For sure the pool drain gate should have not been this easy to open and the lifeguards should have looked into sooner. This is horribly tragic and points to the dangers in Thailand’s mai pen rai stance towards things. My condolences to the family and friends.
This Aussie story about the ADF guy getting ripped off by a ladyboy is just too funny. My guess is he took a girl off the street otherwise they would go to the bar and find “him”. Love how the Nana Plaza name is tossed in the loop just to make something look bad when we all know the guy took a rough looking street shemale and was too careless about his stuff. Not sure this has anything to do with the Plaza. Anyway – I am sure he wishes this was all a bad dream. Not sure why this has anything to do with safe sex:
Asked if ADF personnel received adequate advice on practising safe sex while visiting Bangkok, the department replied that all personnel were required to read a country brief for the area they were operating in.
Since we are down under might as well toss this one out there:
A cash-strapped Olympic hopeful in New Zealand says he has been forced to open a brothel to fund his bid for taekwondo glory in 2012, but officials say his entry into the sex trade could mean his exit from international sport.
Logan Campbell, who represented his country in Beijing last year, says without the financial injection from his “gentlemen’s club” he will be unable to continue his intensive training for the London Games.
Seems to me there is no legal basis for tossing him out but I can see where they will not like this. What I don’t get is why he has not just done it, kept it private and kept his mouth shut.
The last issue of the Economist was banned, I think that makes it three issues so far, but the most interesting article floating around cyberspace right is the Bloomberg one. I won’t quote things here but if you are looking to get a good history of the issues, hear from some heavy hitters and get some good stats – this is the best article going right now. Long read but worth it.
That’s it for now!

That Bloomberg article nails it for what it is. = Thanks for posting it.

I for one had a very nice intellectual evening on Sat nite, For the most part the conversation was thought provoking and just down right stimulating, with comments like, jing-jing and seu-sat, you really do rak dee-chan? How can one deny statements like that, don’t tug at your heart strings. I thought the Beam girls were super good, except for the two at the computer in the back by the hawng nam, who struck me as being in love with each other. Maybe someone had a lock on them, I did think for a minute or two that SSB was at work but he surprised me with the “she ain’t never coming back” then low and behold there she was, a nice touch SSB.
All bullshit aside it was a great night and I for one was more than happy, and with a little luck and a fist full of money I will revert to my old devil may care, “I don’t care what it costs, I want it”.
Can’t wait for DW to go bananas and toss another get together.
The Mango girl were great and really busted their ass trying to keep up with all of the heavy hitters.

Sorry to have missed the party but I had a pair of silky thighs wrapped around me during most of the party hours. Getting shit-faced with Penfold and BBB or plow the field with an LBFM???.. it was never a contest. With any luck I’ll be forced to miss all the other upcoming Mango parties for a similar reason. I’m sure you guys had a great time as always.
I second the thanks for the Bloomberg article.

Yes the bloomberg article sums it up – now is the time to BUY Thai shares!
And stickman said it’s time to buy a gogo bar.
What more reasons do you need to be bullish on Thailand??

msb – not sure how u see it that way at all. maybe from a pure SET angle it could be a buyers market but this is all the calm before the storm in my opinion. the export market is not getting better, the baht is still too strong, tourism has yet to even show any signs of a rebound, the government debt will start piling on and the article clearly points to a ton of obscurity in the future.
Maybe this is the bottom though but I still feel like the one big event will set everything back quite a bit unless there is some orderly plan that has yet to be announced.

SSB – You say this is the bottom as in currently or the article is referring to it.

neither – I am wondering if one could call this the bottom. The depth of the low season is upon us and maybe the world demand stokes the thai export market. however it could only be a bottom if nothing worse happens and I don’t think anyone could predict that. All it would take is Thaksin stirring the pot, the current government falling apart, or the “big” event and for sure we will set a new bottom. None of this also includes any self inflicted stupid shit like airport closures, some new dumb law or more tragedies.

The bottom is still coming and this flu scare is really going to be another nail that’s hard one to disregard. 65/75 million people in the country and the press is going nuts because 24 died. Of course the foreign press will beat that to death with, Asian flu strikes again, school closed, people warned to stay away from public places.

So, the Big Event takes place… what happens to expats who own businesses.. will the doors open for more opertunity or not?
I wonder if Casino’s will ever be dawning the beaches due to a new régime opening up the flood gates to foreign investors to ‘top up’ the money they lost?
What are some dire predictions…?

Im thinking of proftiering from the whole swine-flu gig. I have an order of 25,000 Hello Kitty face masks on order, and will flog the unsightly fuckers for 100baht a pop.
25,000 units for a 100 baht will net me….erm…. profit

@fender: We checked your flight to make sure it left and landed so already knew
. Always a pleasure.
@YP: I guess you could provide a whole line of masks. Maybe one with big Rolling Stones lips, or one with a rotting teeth smile, or one with “will remove for penis” on it? Get on it.

YP
I hope your new mask venture goes well for you. Don’t want to see at the bottom of the Asoke station with a sign around your neck and a tin cup. For some reason I don’t think “stud service” is going to draw that many.

YP Hello Kitty has no mouth so your Face masks will look a bit weird.
Further research reveals why Swine Flu would be preferable.

Good Times all… I was glad to see the all the crazies out in force. I’m glad i got my visa from Cambodia in time to make it to the event, later it was bossy for more liver trashing.
I was surprised to see Fender, DW, SSB, PMMP, YP, PG, BBB… and Yoda. I think this is the first time the group from over seas made it together at one time..
The LA boys were out and about and i heard mr fender made many a thai girls cry.. sick sick bastard!! ha ha.
To big dave & DW’s newbie sidekick…. it was fun on sunday but you all punked out… or did i disappear, not sure… but i am auctioning off pictures of a sunday venture to the highest bidder.
Peace to all…
