When the going gets tough…

I am in Silom most days and I have noticed the amount of beggars, paint sniffers and homeless folks growing as the months go on. Thailand is for sure experiencing it’s first real recession in a long time. We just went through the so-called high season and I can only imagine the low season will make all contributing factors even worse. With this comes the rise of theft and petty crime.
Bangkok Post ran some stats the other day showing that crime is up in Bangkok – here is a link to a site covering this in more detail. I still feel like Bangkok is pretty safe even though others try to prove all the time it is not but of course crime will rise as the city experiences a real recession – there is no denying that.
Last night I was added to the petty crime stats.
I was walking from Silom soi 3 to the MRT station when I was approached by the usual duo of a small girl walking beside you begging for change and a teenage boy carrying a huge bag of snacks asking you to buy some. I politely decline and keep walking but while he leans his bag of crap against you he is actually fishing in your pockets. The girl tries to lean against you as well trying to confuse the whole situation. Usually I am good with this stuff and I push them all away but try not to hurt anyone. Suddenly they backed off but I should have realized the sudden stoppage meant they got something.
Moments later I am in the 7/11 and I am missing my cash notes. They were in my left jean pocket – the side the boy was on. He was slick since I did not feel a thing. I ran right back and they were in the same spot I left them. They are smart since running would make them look suspicious. I looked around and there were no cops. I also checked to see if any of the mafia types were around keeping an eye on them. They were sitting behind the BTS station so it made for easy cover for what I was about to do.
I grabbed the kid by the throat and pushed his head against the wall. Then I put my hand out and politely asked in Thai for my money back. The girl started screaming and the boy could not speak, not sure why, but seconds later he handed me back all my money. He said sorry but I grabbed him and tried to drag him to a police dude but the girl was kicking me and screaming her head off. This would have been hard to explain so I let them go but I wished I could have nailed them.
Watch your pockets folks.
Seen the new MSFT search engine Bing? I love how it works.
Looks like the British chick will be doing some time. I think she deserves it but I still want to know where the kid came from.
So the mainstream press is writing about the sex trade and of course they have to mention Thailand:
Back in Bangkok, the relative strength of foreign currencies isn’t helping local businesses. The cost of traveling to Thailand from far-flung places like Australia and Japan offsets any gains from the exchange rate. Pong, the female manager of Bangkok’s Babylon Sauna, Bed and Breakfast, knows that all too well, as her business depends on foreign revenue to stay afloat. Described as “the most stylish and lavish sauna ever seen” by online gay guide Pink Banana World, Babylon welcomed an average of 800 visitors per day before the recession hit. That number now hovers around 500. “The entrance fee is already low, so dropping it won’t make a difference,” Pong says. So what’s a sauna manager to do? “Pray for us,” is all she can say.
Of course you won’t hear about any recession specials in Thailand – lowering prices is against the culture
I always love how the mainstream press uses any way they can so to slight Thailand – even when there is no connection. So with this article a low-life Russian dude happens to be in Pattaya when he decides to try and throw a tennis match he is betting money on. Like this has anything to do with Thailand?
Four months ago in a hotel room overlooking the landscaped gardens of the luxurious Dusit Thani hotel in Pattaya City, Thailand, Dmitry Avilov sat deep in thought for several hours, he recalls, nervously composing a message in Russian to Ekaterina Bychkova, a tennis player now ranked No. 169 on the WTA Tour.
Sleeper go-go on Cowboy right now is Cowboy 2.
Thai Hooker Notes:
My girlfriend (a 25 year old Filipina) is keen to experience a ‘three some’ with me and another girl. She would like to lick another girl and be fucked by me whilst being licked etc. We visit Bangkok several times a year and would be interested in your services. Please advise your costs for ‘short time’ (2-3 hours) and ‘long time’ (all night). We usually stay around Nana in Bangkok. I want her to have a great time so I want an enthusiastic
performer and a girl who loves other girls. You wouldn’t have much to do with me (a 52 year old farang) other than suck my cock with my GF. I doubt she would let me fuck you!
If you are interested, please advise your fees, your mobile phone number and send some photos that I can forward to her. We are planning to visit Bangkok again soon.
She is also keen to experience a ladyboy (fucked in the pussy by the LB and in the arse by me at the same time) so if you have a ladyboy friend that has a big cock and who likes women and men please send me their contact details.

jing jing u got ur dough back ? way 2 go . usually they’re smarter and take off like bats out of hell . these ones must have been more recent products of the cambo educational system .
witnessed a dude get his phone snatched at the golden one time . NEVER leave it out . was sad watching him say to the very same kids/thieves “”you keep the phone but i need the contacts/numbers. i’ll give a 1,000.”
oliver twist has nothing on these urchins . surprised the cops let ‘em roam (but then again i’m also surprised they let liberians “work” sukhumvit soi 5).

Those kids are walking turds. I fucking hate the little cunts. Kinda lucky their pimp didn’t come and fuck you up with an axe in the neck.
The worst core of those little shitstains frequent Pattaya soi7/8
I walked down Sukhumvit Road a few times this week and noticed the beggars are not only more plentiful, but also louder and more ‘eager’ for those coins. Normally id stop and drop a few satang their way, however I was on my way to the MRT for an appointment at Nataree, so had no time

jd – I headed back pretty quick so they did not have much time but I would have assumed they would have passed the money of by now. They are not smart but they are good pick pocketers. I worried most about being seen by their handler or someone who might defend them but we were behind the BTS station and it was late. I took a chance but I was so pissed off so I was not leaving without my money.
yp – I think it is because u had no money to give them.

That was not a wise move. Glad you got away in one piece with your money back, but still… you might want to avoid that part of Silom for a while.
Sure, you managed to evade their handlers this time but I’m sure the kids will happily point you out to them next time…

bbb – it had been a long day but they are thieves and deserved to be treated as such. It was pretty obvious he knew he was wrong and hence I left it at that but if the girl had not kept hitting me I would have dragged him all the way back to where my police connection was. That was the plan anyway.

i agree that the pickpockets have become more abundant in recent months. since living in bangkok i’ve made a habit of sewing razorblades into my pockets to thwart any attempt to lift my wallet. it’s worked out nicely, the only downside is i have to explain to my gf why my pockets are full of blood when i get home (damned strawberries). i’ve also thought about hiring a gang of ninja’s or monkeys (ninja monkeys??) but finding a ninja that can pass a drug test these days is more difficult than one would think.
also, i’m pretty sure there’s a law someplace stating that it’s not child abuse if the kids not yours. that would pretty much clear things up if you are debating throat punching one of those kids.

Ha, UCW tops it off nicely as usual. When do I get to buy you a Corona, or whatever crap it is you guys drink?
Yes, they’re thieves, and I have little sympathy for them.
I’d just be very wary of roughing up kids, in any part of the world…

bbb – mexicans in bkk drinks fermented soy milk with mehkong floater
also – I am not condoning violence nor did I rough him up – just grabbed him where it got his attention so it would all be over quick and before anyone noticed. I would have loved for the police to handle all this but the chance of getting a police man over or getting him to a police man would be rarely rare. money back and I am over it but watch these kids.

Surprised you did not mention the new immigration rules change. For those of you that missed it, as of June 4 you are now limited to 4 consecutive over-land passport stamps.
Remember that a while back the 30-day stamp you got from doing a land-based visa run was halved to 15 days. At the same time, the preivous limit of 3 stamps in 180 days was removed.
Well, now you can get just 4 15-day stamps and you will not be allowed back into Thailand — unless you enter through an airport.
Drive to Phnom Penh, fly back.
Lots of hoohaw about this on the sexpat message boards, but the fact is this reg only affects a small number of people living their lives in the black economy. Considering how easy it is to get a Tourist visa — Laos is offering double entry toutists which give you a total 6 months — there’s no real reason not to get a proper visa. And, think about it, what other countries really allow you to stay longterm without a visa.
Still, I’ve met folks who’ve cut holidays short because of the 15-day idiocy. Thailand really doesn’t know how to promote tourism.
IN OTHER NEWS
The signs of downturn and recessoin are everywhere in Pattaya. Some examples:
* Walking Street — Newish disco Republika has closed. Also closed in the past month or so, go-gos X-Zone 2 and Loma. X-Zone 1 is said to be closing at month’s end.
* Subway has cut its daily 69-baht sub to 59 baht to get trade.
* Girls, especailly serivce girls, are leaving the gogos en masse. Few customers and what ones there are are not tipping. In Sisterz, the seats were full for the 48-baht well drinks during happy hour, but not one lady drink was consumed in the hour plus I was there. In the entire bar. Amazing.
* Bars cotinue to slash prices to get the few customers they can. Try BJ Club gogo on WS for 35 baht suds. Chanmpion has thai whiskey drinks all night for 45 baht. Living Dolls has some evil Isaan alcohol shots at 30 baht all night.
* Lollipop’s boss was in another bar the other night trying to poach a manager. He said his bar took only 20,000 baht last Friday night.
Doom and gloom are pretty much everywhere. Please send us some tourists.

BBB- i’d let you buy me a drink but don’t think i’m going to put out or anything.
SSB- how hard is it to stock some tecate or dos equis?? i mean, corona?? what the fuck am i? on spring break!?
and one more question for the masses. i have a bottle of snake wine. you know that stuff with chili peppers with the cobra sitting inside of it? has anyone every drank the shit? how strong is it? i’m a bit apprehensive to drink it since the last time i drank an unidentified liquor i woke up with what looked like a cross between joan rivers and george foreman.

Great job ssB. I quite enjoy hearing stories where a “victim” stands up for himself in Bangkok when t comes to petty crime. I know it is technically “unwise” to do so, but sometimes it is hard to stand down your own principles.
A few months ago, I bitch-kicked a couple of lady boys on the corner of Suk Soi 19 for a similar offense (they tried, but got nothing).
I’m still standing and breathing…

@PG: Are you sure you don’t want to retract that? You seem bitter. You also seem to think that attracting tourism is the only thing on Thailand’s collective mind…
What’s up with people these days?

@Ghost: Price cuts? 35 baht drinks? Count your blessings. In Bangkok, they just raise the prices… Sounds like it’s very quiet down there right now.
@UCW: That’s cool, just try not to shit the bed.
@JB: Sure. Just mindful of the audience. Just cos ssB got his money back, doesn’t mean the next 100 readers who try the same thing will be as fortunate.
Say there’s a bunch of Thai guys walking past, and they see a farang with one hand round a kid’s throat, and the other relieving the kid of a wad of money. Sure, *maybe* they’ll ask questions first…

Doom and gloom is right…just a few weeks ago some Thonglor Trixie had the nerve to offer me a ride home in her 2 year old Beemer, yes, 2 years old, thanks, but I’ll pass. The recession sucks.

@bkk22 – I hear you brother. Imagine my disgust when I went back to a former Miss Thailands/Maxim models house last week, and the booze she provided was SANGSOM! No Jonny Black or Chivas…… but fucking SANGSOM. I almost stormed out in protest.
Also I nearly shat a brick when I purchased a packet of fruit mentos (the king of all sugar based tubularly packaged snacks) from the 7/11 last week, and the price jumped from 10 baht, to 12! I had to break a fucking green note for christs sakes, and those pesky 1baht coins, really spoil the line of my trouser.

Had ssB called me I would have ran down there and gone all Chuck Norris on them.
Actually, I sent the kids to rob you to pay for the dinner that you left me with the bill for.
My pal was in Spain with his wife… having a little walk in the town.. little scroats grabbed his missus bag and did a runner with my pal giving chase. The bag changed hands many times with other ‘team members’ but my pal still chased the original kid.
When he caught him and tried to drag him to the nearest cop, the kid dropped his shorts and shit catchers and started screaming!
My friend then had to a runner in fear of locals thinking he was a kiddie-fiddler.
The little shits.
I told my pal that he should of smashed the kids shit in… that’ll teach him.
TIP: always carry a glass ashtray.

How do you identify the mafia types that control those thieves? Are most of them Vietnamese refugees?

I have seen the kids ssb is talking about.
They tried to accost me a few days ago on Saladaeng Rd. It was late, no time for youngsters like that to be out, and I had already stepped down into the road from the sidewalk, as there have been reports of rip-offs occuring on that streetch of road late at night.
(Bruce Lee recommended always walking in the middle of the road, away from sidewalks and side streets if you can, to avoid getting jumped and increase your options for self-defense if you are.)
I told them politely I didnt want to buy whatever they were hawking, and the boy continued to approach me with his big bag of schmak, using it as a cushion as he tried to bump against me….I shoved him away immediately, as something just didn’t feel right, but was even nervous doing that, as there was another scummy character who appeared to be looking out for them squatting on his haunches across the street. I don’t like to put my hands on thai kids (or any thais there is no such thing as a fair fight over here, they all start jumping in like hobgoblins from every direction to stomp on a farang, regardless of how the shit started); it’s good you got away with it unscathed, and even got your money back.
Unfortunately, Saladaeng is trending towards the creepy side in the later hours with mentally ill homeless people in desperate need of a bath, and a gaggle of creepy glue sniffers and drunkards who hang around the 7-11.

pp – I am not sure. I identified that there was no one around who might want to kick my ass. Most of the normal thais hanging around do not like these folks either.
as – same kids but I saw no handler. How can u walk down the middle of the road in bkk without getting run overed? Also – I dont think this is a silom thing or a saladaeng thing it is a proper recession and the people are feeling it and getting nastier. Rather sad really.

ahhh…not a nice subject. Every city’s got them, luckily havent been in any situation like that in Bkk, have no idea what id do to be honest, its just too dodgy to even touch a thai i think.
my mother once got spat on….one of those fully gobbed from the bowels spits that one occaisonally does when they have the flu.
This aboriginal cunt gobbed it fair in the middle of her face with a look of sheer hatred, then stood there and smiled.
He was a few seconds away from dying when the 10 or so of his tribe that evaporated out of thin air finally managed to restrain me….and proceed to kick the living suitcase out of me. Might have been a good thing i guess, im still sure to this day i would have killed him.
If retaliating…stop 2 seconds and make sure you are ready to fight 10 guys, because thats often what happens.

Anyone seen the little f****r who hangs around the enterance to the Sukhumvit mrt station. Hes about twelve and a mouthy little shit and either works with a younger boy who wisely keeps out of it or a small girl who again is not really involved with the aggressive stuff.
Barged into me on a couple of occasions with flowers or some other crap and when I stuffed my hands into my pockets, he realised he was stumped and started with the mouth, lucky he didnt get anything apart from a good round f*** off from me.
Hes still a kid so you wouldnt hit him like maybe you would consider a ladyboy doing the same thing but his mouth lets him down and could lead to someone giving him a slap, not wise for both parties and the law will be called and then it steps up a gear.
Usually there between midnight and two looking for those who have had a drink or two and who wont notice the handy work. Has also been seen even in the late afternoon by the escalator to Asok BTS on the other side of the road.

@penfold: while maxium models are hot they get paid shit, hence her rocking the Sangsom. You gotta go for the girls on tv (preferably main roles) as they make good money and will spring for the Black label.
Better luck next time.

I’m mostly polite when I brush off these types. Regardless, some of them just don’t get the message.
With them constantly bumping up against me and walking so close to me on occasion I’ve happened to step on a foot or two or a leg gets tangled and the bugger stumbles or falls. Shame.

@ucw: Don’t hang around, drink it quickly.
I had a pint bottle of this stuff with the cobras head in it sitting on a shelf for two months until, one drunken night, we returned home from the pub and it was the only thing left in the house to drink.
24 hours of projectile vomitting is not fun. Of course, it may have been the 8 pints of Newcastle Brown or the Chicken Vindaloo but no, I’m blaming it on the snake wine…..

I was in Veintenne laos about 8 years ago. I was sitting with a friend adn we saw a couple dyed blond haired kids begging, and the tourists were so taken with them, after awhile we saw the kids go up to a Lao guy a give him all the cash. My friend and I quickly called him over and asked him what the fuck he was doing. He calmly said, they have no one, I’m helping them, with me there finished. He said he bleached there hair too. The guy just looked at us like if your gonna kick my ass I dont care, life kinda sucks anyway. and with that we said goodbye…

I had one little rat try and slip his filthy mitt into my pocket near Asok about 6 months ago.
As mentioned in a post above it was the flower trick. He pressed up against me and I could feel his hand.
They go for the right hand pocket.
I shouted at the fucker and he walked off.
I don’t drink so I was well aware of what was happening.
Anyone coming from Cowboy and had had a skinful, then they will be fucked I thought.
Anyway, I always carry a small amount in my pockets – enough that I am prepared to lose.
The rest of my cash is concealed.
Plus I always take ‘enough’ cash out.
I never carry wallets or credit cards around or ever use ATMs.
I remember hearing a farang was robbed of his wallet along Suk in the day time by about 6 locals.
The came alongside him and lifted him up while he was in the air his pockets were emptied.
The dropped him and ran off.

Re Thai visas, think I will try out Sihanoukville, Cambodia when I retire and come back to Asia. $295 yearly business visa with rights to do business works for me. Less hassle if I want to do some contract engineering work occasionally.

I often try to grab the little s**ts fingers and bend them back, hard. The other day when the little cunts accosted me as I got down from the Sukhumvit overpass, at Soi 23, by the bus stop, I worked my hand in between the popcorn they were selling and quickly jabbed the biggest cunt in the throat with my fingers and then grabbed the hand of the littlest one and bent it back. They ran off, but I’m sure they’ll be back.
BTW, I’ve found the same thing works with ladyboys, and as long as their arms aren’t longer than your’s, you can grab them by the throat and squeeze and they generally get the message. Got to remember to be pushing them back at the same time though.

‘Concerning her pregnancy, Ms Orobator told the Lao authorities she conspired with another prisoner, Mr John Watson, to secretly obtain his sperm, which she used to impregnate herself.’
And these genuises expect concerned officials to believe this 20 year old girl has the equipment and knowledge of procedures required to perform artifical insemination.
It has to be obvious that a prison official, or another prisoner, delivered the semen in the old-fashioned way. Upon birth, it should be obvious who provided the semen.
