Hello folks. Got a few emails this past week asking if we were ever going to re open the blessed Big Mango. As soon as we sign a lease for a new spot we will announce it on the blog. Then people can try to find out where it is because we will probably keep that silent for a while. Possibly have a spot the new mango construction zone contest or something. Point is the search has been ongoing and we do not want to announce anything until things look solid. I do want to thank all of our loyal fans though for keeping the interest alive and for checking in from time to time. We appreciate it a ton.
Hit Forte a few times over the last 2 weeks. Had not been in a while and a few friends wanted to check it. So we did. We walked in ad I locked eyes on a new girl and probably one of the hottest I have seen in a while. Tall, leggy and buxom. She makes a barbie doll look politically correct. She is not from Isaan. I am quite sure no girl in her right mind who comes from where she comes from and who looks as good as she does would ever be found in a go-go bar. If you think so just keep looking and we can compare photos someday. Anyway. Digits in hand from the first trip we have chatted a few times, met in a club and shared some whiskey in an apartment. Her apartment. Her whiskey. No I have not given her any money. I love bkk.
Forte has been pretty fun. Even some Forte veterans who accompanied me mentioned that the place was more fun than past trips. I chalk it up to more coyote girls, less of the band, and even a few fun shows with the coyote girls. That’s it. Have no intention now of talking up the g-clubs. I have given them enough new business and frankly I don’t want any more farangs going. Will leave it at that.
g-clubs suck. Don’t ever go. Thx.
Happened to hook up with some friends in Tapas on a Saturday night. Tapas is on Silom soi 4. Yes – the gay clubbing street but is also home to some cool places like Tapas and Noriega’s. I have only been to Tapas before during the week since I am not out much on the weekends. So hitting Tapas on a Saturday night was a huge eye opener. The place was rammed, full of potential puss and even had the random male celeb which never hurts in attracting even more puss.
Tapas is one of those strange tweener places. You got office girls, school teachers, wanna be hi-so girls, part time working girls, girls looking to hook up, uni girls and ugly girls looking to get laid. It is all in there but the working girl quotient is quite low which makes it a fun place to explore. During the week the place is a nice joint to meet a date or your mates for a quiet drink but fri/sat this place is a gold mine. In the pic is Ananda – current male celeb of the month. He is the new dude for the pepsi max campaign. You will notice him all over the Skytrain stops. He was in Tapas and I recognized him right away fighting off hordes of Thai hotties wanting to get a pic with him. He is a halfie of lao/american origins I believe. That translates into super puss magnet in case you were wondering.
Anyway. Tapas is a nice change of pace and despite the p4p scene being abundant, to say the least, I think the chase is pretty damn fun given the kills are just too easy sometimes.
Spice and Tunnel seem to be the current after-hours leaders. They attract such a different crowd that they don’t seem to compete much. I can’t stand the tunes at Spice so I hate the place. Tunnel is fine but on the weekends there is barely room to breathe but there are a ton of girls. Spicy is full of dudes bused in from Khao San so apart from the occasional weekday drop in I stay away. I am despondent to admit I have been to Lucky Club twice this month. Horrible. This is the club of last resort when u have been everything but lucky. Don’t ask me how I started the night in Forte and ended up in Lucky.
Off to pattaya for a few days to pet the lemur. Will try to do some solid trip reports.

I agree that Tapas is a nice change of pace, but I wouldn’t fall all over myself calling it a “goldmine”. I was there on Saturday night as well, though I didn’t have the pleasure (?) of seeing Mr. Pepsi Max, I will admit that there were some very nice looking, though already attached, girls in there — of which 2 were absolute stunners.
Tapas is a pretty cool spot. It has a nice inviting ambiance with candles on all the tables etc. Sometime in the past few years they have kind of remodeled the entrance and main level, so what used to seem like a dark, not very clean cellar bar, now is very nice. It has 3 basic areas: the outside terrace with lounge seats and comfortable seating (great for watching the sometimes bizarre action on soi 4), the inside lower level (which is normally not too crowded but seems to fill up with couples and groups of couples drinking champagne, etc) and the upstairs (usually very packed, has a band or bongo drum player, something of a dancefloor and a square stand-alone bar in the middle – also there are a few sofa-zones too). It’s not a big place but it is nice, the staff are generally friendly, and yes, there are some girls there! Without generalizing too much, I’d say the girls mostly fit into the “FL crowd from Spasso that decided not to go to Spasso that night” group than any other — but there are exceptions of course so I don’t disagree 100% with the “tweener” idea either. Might depend on the night as well.
BTW, it is free to sit on the terrace and is kind of a good evening starting point, or 100 baht entry into the club, which is pure cover charge.

On recommendation from Anna at the xbox bar, I went over the road to Finnegans Irish bar. Special tonight, half roast chicken and chips, mashed potato and veg for 200 baht. It was spot on. Wednesday is quiz night for all those missing this british tradition. Its not like the other big irish bar on soi4!

Been about 4 years since I was in Udon Thani. Disco beside the Charoen Hotel had a good crowd, but I was too shy to go in. (I’m too old, and couldn’t speak Thai).
Found a gogo bar in the middle of the city. Large, dark and cavernous. The girl that sat beside me only knew 4 English words: “1,000 short, 2,000 sleep”
At the time, it was supposedly the only gogo in Isaan. No idea if it’s still there. I’m thinking a recon back there this Spring.

I’m a bit to tanked to write it up properly…but Udon is rocking at the moment. Mr. Tong’s…the bar across from the Charoensri Grand Hotel is full of FL talent…some absolute stunners (keep in mind that this is literally the factory floor). The beer/hostess bars have some hidden gems, and the local crowd up here loves to party. Best local teks that I’ve been to have been Climax, Mambo, and Yellow Bird. The late night place for late night pulls is called +10…something like Buak Sip if you try and pronounce it in thai.
My only gripe is that there is some huge friggin’ American military excersice going on right now and the amount of young dudes willing to throw around huge amounts of cash is quite high at the moment.
Getting out of BKK is so rewarding. Can’t rate it high enough…

@Hckler – Thats the Cobra Gold Operation. I know the USMC participates and I believe the Navy as well. They import girls into town just for the event.

@DJ – now that you mention it, I remember Cobra Gold happening around May last year. However I noticed gov’t types and military folks in October as well…Cobra Gold extension or a different exercise maybe?

Cope Tiger sounds about right. Now that I think of it, I remember seeing a Cope Tiger 2008 t-shirt on some huge military dude. It was eerie our last night there…someone told us that a large contingent of the guys needed to be on a plane at midnight on Saturday. We went out at our usual time and the place was relatively deserted. Just the typical older age farang locals with the dregs of the FL scene left over. Guess the guys realized they needed to make the most of it and decided to pull (out or in?) early in preparation.

Smitty, thanks. Fresno is actually the CV, Central Valley, not Norcal. Closer to SoCal even, as you know.
Anyway, I was with the comments on Tapas totally in the know, but when I read grovemonkey and thought about it, it was true too (even having never been to TGIF in Fresno, but to similar SSBD), which was really funny in the wrong way since the World is no where close to the Land so it is the same but totally opposite (no, not same same but different, SSBD), more like the cruel side of the mirrored universe if there is one.
Ironically, I have to go to Fresno next weekend and I will not be going to TGIF’s, although there is this Thai massage joint, Lana Thai, I was thinking of checking out, even if it is for triple the prices in LOS, with no happy ending guaranteed.
Oh well, I guess I’ll send some money to one of my YT’s and have you lucky ducks keep her warm for me, not!

I would also say pegasus is a very poor example of the member/g club scene given its age, how expensive it is and how it is still a sukhumvit like joint.

When I first started going to the Pent (6 months ago) it was rare for me to see more than two or three white faces in the place. I went in last night, and half the crowd in the disco was farang.
