S. Botan – Cheapolay throws us a bone…

I did it for the team. Moments after Cheapolay posted this comment I was on the Skytrain and headed for the National Stadium stop. Sure there are tons of massage places I have never been to, but to hear about one I have never heard of in a place I figured had very few Farang and gifted to me by someone with a handle like Cheapolay enticed me to check it out as soon as I could. This is not to say I am cheap or looking for the cheapest experience but something about it just sounded interesting. Here is my tale.
I took the train to National Stadium and got off at exit 1. This is the same exit you take if you want to visit the Jim Thompson house. If you have never been you should check the place out. These are my walking directions: Keep walking down Sukhumvit away from the Siam area. Sukhumvit at this point is essentially Rama 1. Keep going and you will see the Tesco shopping center on your right. Keep going. It’s good weather. U can use the walk. The next intersection is the magic one. Cheapolay referred to it as Urapong but this is what confused me. I did not see any signs in Thai or English for Urapong and thought I had the wrong street but turns out the street is Rama 6. So turn right on Rama 6. Then keep walking until you get to Soi 13 – which is on your left. The S. Botan building is the corner of Soi 13 and Rama 6. If you are taking a taxi just say – Praram hok soi sip sam. For those driving, it seems to me you can take the expressway and get off at the Urapong exit and take a left. Hopefully this is correct.
At this point u can at least find the place. On a quick side note. If you do not have at least some conversational grasp of Thai then I don’t think you will enjoy S. Botan. This is not to say don’t try it but you might feel a little uncomfortable. This is a Thai joint through and through. This is not even a Ratchada type joint that caters to other Asians. This is a Thai joint. From what I can tell – hardly anyone at the place spoke English. For sure you could still pick a girl and do your thing but u might not have as much fun given you can’t talk with anyone. However don’t let this dissuade you from checking the place out.
The place has 2 entrances but they basically lead to the same lobby. One side claims traditional massage and the other says turkish bath I think. Go in either entrance since you will end up in the same lobby. Unlike a lot of the big massage places S. Botan does not have a big comfy lobby. More of a coffee shop setting and the normal fish bowl area. Most guys tend to stand right at the fish bowl and pick. I sat down and got a bottle of water so I could soak the place up. The papasan came over and gave me the scoop. 1ooo baht. All in. No other choices or options. Next time I may see if I can take 2 but the tubs are just too small for that.
I was not seeing anyone I liked but that is not to say the selection was bad. For a 3:00 pm on a Monday I was pretty impressed in general with the amount of girls. To be clear these are not the same as the 2500 baht girls somewhere else but for a 1ooo baht I also was not feeling like they were bottom rung either. I sat back and watched the lobby a little more. The girls behind the glass were in your typical fish bowl gaudy attire but I kept seeing a few girls standing at the counter or walking through that were in normal dresses. They also had their massage kit with them. I asked the papasan who they were.
He told me that apart from the girls behind the glass the place had some part-timers. He said they come and go as they please but are not on display anywhere from what I can tell. The price is still the same but he said they are not as good. My guess is he means from a professional angle but in my mind I always tend to have more fun with the part-timers but usually at other places they are more expensive so I tend to not try this often. However at S. Botan it is a one price menu. 1000 baht. Living the dream. So I went to sit back down and just as I turned my back I bumped into another part-timer coming to work. A small, dark spinner. Long hair, curvy body and a cute smile. I memorized her number but sat down anyway. I then asked the papasan if she was game and he went to ask. He came back and she said yes.
I paid the girls at the counter and we went upstairs. The place is old and outdated but I would not say it is dumpy. The rooms are small and the tub is small. Sure it could all be nicer but at this point I did not care. This girl was cute. She was 21 and from Rayong. She had been working at the place a month which I verified with the papasan. At places like this I really see no reason for anyone to lie. She lives with her sister who is still in school. I asked her what she used to do and she said she worked the phones for Pizza Company for delivery orders from Thai speakers. For sure next time when I order a pizza I will be thinking of this girl.
There are those seeking pro experiences in the massage scene and there are times to just enjoy the moment with a cutie knowing it will not be a pro session. I am down with either providing I am not wanting one experience but getting another. For example. Tulip. Pro place. Of course there was my regular there who worked like a pro but without u noticing but she got married. I knew right away when I picked this girl based on her demeanor and dress that she was not a pro. U can just tell. When she managed to entirely undress without ever taking off her towel that was snugly covering her entire body – I confirmed my suspicions. However it just turned me on more and given the price how could I really go wrong?
We retreated to the tub and at this point the towel came off just as she slipped into the water. The tubs are small but manageable given the size of most Thai women. 3 people are out of the question though. After the bath we popped onto the bed and she confirmed whether I wanted a massage. I figured since she was new that getting the massage was the right start even if she was not good at massage. Turned out she was okay at it but of course the towel never left her body. Then she asked if I wanted anything else. I knew she was shy and worried about it so I said whatever she wanted to do. I also told her she could turn down the lights if it made her feel better. She had a good body so I think the shyness was more about me than her body. After she dimmed the lights – really dim – she came back and said she had never been with a Farang. She said she had only been at S. Botan for a month and never saw a Farang in the place. She had never had a Farang boyfriend either. Kill me.
I told her it was not a problem and she started in with a BJ. U know the kind of BJ where the girl is not great at it but also does not realize that it is working better than she thinks. Working almost too well. I finally had to let her know that if she kept up she might get more than she bargained for. She laughed since she thought she was not doing well at it. Works for me. So then we got to business. The room was almost dark but with it being dark she was less shy and I think was getting into it. I had a great time. Details over.
We showered up and I asked about tipping since I was curious what she was used to. She said many times there are no tips or just a few hundred baht. I forgot to ask what their cut is of the 1k. I asked her if 500 baht was cool. She asked me if I wanted to do it again. Shoot me. Living the dream. 1500 baht all in. Makes cowboy and nana look pretty over the top pricewise at this point. She was nice, polite, gorgeous but not a super hottie. Seemed to enjoy my business, I know it is business, and told me to ask for her again if I wanted to next time. She stopped at giving me her number but I would do the same if I was her at this point.
I did notice that the front counter did not give her the massage ticket until we had come back down. My guess would be that if you complained or had a problem that she might not get her ticket. That is the Thai way when it comes to service. Imagine seeing that in the Farang dominated places.
Thanks again to Cheapolay for the info. My faith in Bangkok is temporarily restored.

Hey Smittens, glad you enjoyed the experience. To answer some of the questions: Girls get I believe 720 Baht out of the 1,000. The place is basically renting rooms for 280 Baht for 1.5 hours. It’s very straight up and as you said a very no-frills Thai style place. Many working class Thai guys go there. 1,000 Baht covers the first shot and they expect 500 for a second shot if you want one. When you offered her the 500 Baht tip she probably assumed you wanted to pay for a second round and didn’t interpret it as a tip as such. As she said, average tip in the there is 100-200 baht I think. Women are often older as you probably may have noticed and many of the more seasoned ones are not wanting to hand around in the room and get cute after the detail is done. Most Thai guys are out of there in 45 minutes. So it’s more of a knocking shop really than the more high-end service orientated places you find in Ratchada and Rama 9. Anyway, it’s not the type of place I would want to go to everyday, but it definitely is not pricey and if you don’t want to get into the romance of the whole soapy thing, and just want to get down to business, it is more the place for that. I believe they do get their share of foreigners though. Girls there have told me of other foreigners going there, but I must admit I have only seen a couple on occasion myself. The girls must return the remote control when they come back down, as well as make sure they have not gone over the 1.5 hours time limit or they must pay a penalty of 120 baht I think. So that is why you see them muddling at the counter before returning to the fish bowl. Many of the rooms have recently been repainted and they just put in new TVs in all the rooms recently for what it is worth. Urapong is actually the name of that road it is on. It becomes officially Rama 6 though after you cross the Petchburi junction on the other side of the klong. They do have decent food though in the coffee shop and the staff are all generally friendly and not too pushy like at some of the other soapy places. There is something to be said for a place that is quite straight forward in their approach with everything right up front as you experienced.

I’ve only endulged in 1 soapy before, and a rather crap massage down soi 4, next to the Family Mart. The ones where the girls sit outside plying themselves with as much make-up as there face can carry.

More info: They open at 2PM and noon on weekends. Fish bowl closes at 11-11.30 PM depending on customer traffic. I have had more than 1 girl in there who has not been with a foreigner before. I am not sure if that always adds something to the experience, but if you find it an interesting novelty then you will probably find it there on occasion. Again though, a lot of the girls there are quite experienced, but some aren’t like anyplace you go to. There are always going to be new comers in any venue. I also think if the floor manager and the girl both said she was only there a month then you can take it to be the truth. Especially the floor manager, he gains nothing from lying. Either you will take her or the next guy will and either way he still gets his 280 Baht. Sorry to burst your bubble though, there is no part timers there or sideline girls as they are known. They all get off 6 days a month and if they exceed that then they must reapply and pay another 1,000+ Baht for a new number. Sometimes they get their old number if it has not been reassigned. Anyway, all these trivial details are not important to the experience, only for personal interest. If you have a good time there then that is all that really counts.

If a girl is new/young to the system and at a place not frequented by farang than having someone tell me they have never been with farang seems possible. If the showgirl at AW told me that – then of course I would not put too much faith in it.

If they had any part timers there it would be news to me. I believe there is only one system and one price there as you mentioned. Some girls will sit in the back room behind the fish bowl at times either chatting, eating, or waiting for a customer who may have booked them. Some just will be taking a break after their last trick before getting back in the bowl. Probably you saw her right after she came down from a trick (sorry to burst your bubble) and when you called her she had not gotten back in the bowl just yet. The place is pretty chilled in that sense. Girls are not required to spend a specified period of time in the fish bowl on a daily basis, or to buy all their soap supplies from the venue like at some other places, only to show up an average of 24 days per month. With the average Thai guy spending only 45 minutes with them, many of the girls can do 5-6 tricks in a day if they want to really work it, and many do, but yet still have time to sit in the back and gossip about cock sizes while snacking on some “gub-gam” when they want a break from it all.

Wasn’t suggesting you thought she was a virgin, just thought you might be disappointed at the prospect of knowing she might have had another guy’s wood in her mouth within the same hour as yours. Anyway, as you said, there is enough information here for fellow fish bowlers to give it a go if they want. Also, maybe there are some part timers there now for all I know. But a part timer means you have less likelihood of finding her there again next time you go if you wanted to see her there again. Again though, it makes little difference if she is a part timer, full timer, 19 years old or 35, whether she is new at it or old at it, or if anything she told you was the truth or not. You enjoyed the encounter and all the little fantasies that go along with it, and that’s all that counts. Can always call her and meet her at the PB Hotel instead. They painted some of the downstairs (draw curtain) rooms now, added cable TV, and they are still 270 Baht for 3 hours. No free drinking water yet like upstairs, but they don’t have so far to go now.
Thank goodness though they did not take out those gynocollegal chairs during the room upgrades. They are always a good conversaiton piece as a pre-cursor to getting things rolling.

@realist – if you read the post a bit more carefully, Smitty didn’t drive up the prices – he gave her a ha roi tip but got to do the bump and grind a 2nd time. Cheapolay (great handle by the way) then mentioned that 1500 was the norm for two pops. So … although the intention was to give a decent tip, in the end he didn’t give a tip at all. So now she’s in the back room snuffling down the 5 baht mama, talking about how she put out for this farang guy and he stiffed her on the tip – LOL.

Just a quick ad here. I speak, read, and write Thai so I agree that the experience tends to be a bit more pleasant when you’re familiar wtih the language and culture.
I walked in today to take a look. One thing to note is that the staff is very friendly and best of all, not pushy.
Do not worry if you don’t speak Thai. If you’re a westerner, I recommend being as polite as possible. Dress appropriately with black shoes, black socks, long pants (no jeans), nice normal shirt (no tank tops or t-shirts). If you don’t speak Thai, just speak slowly, softly, and politely. They will respect your business if you respect theirs.
The advantage I had of speaking Thai is that my lady didn’t speak English, but we had some nice small talk. I asked her where she was from, she’s worked there for one month, and actually recently graduated with an accounting degree at a university that I’m familiar with, but won’t mention the name here. After the massage, we talked more about this, mentioned how the economy was down and there were not a lot of accounting jobs or opportunities in the present day (not discussed, but this was a mediocre university of course).
She was 20 years old, even though most college grads are 21 or sometimes 22, and had been working there for one month.
Speaking Thai made things easy and very enjoyable. Also, she was petite, thin, and attractive in my opinion.
Price was 1000 Baht as mentioned in the original post. A lady came in and asked if I wanted a drink. I asked for hot tea and the lady asked for orange juice. It was 85 baht, but I left 100 baht total.
At the end of the massage, I left her a 200 Baht tip. I later asked about the tips and she said they generally range from 100 to 300 baht, but can go as high as 500 if the person is gererous. All in all, this girl was cool and said it’s always up to the customer. In my opinion, 200 to 300 should be a sufficient tip.
She left a 20-baht tip next to the drinks. In hindsight, I should have told her not to worry about that and I should have left the 20-baht tip for the service person. I think they do that to keep good relations with the staff.
All in all, I got out of there for 1300 baht with a nice experience.
There’s also a fish bowl on the second floor. I asked about that, but she told me that was massage only, no sex.
This was my first time using the massage service. I had dropped by a couple of years ago and just looked, as well has had some pad thai in the cafe.
In 2006, it was 800 baht for full service. I don’t know if the price went up, or they simply charge foreigners more. Either way, it doesn’t matter.

I do believe what this girl is saying is true – the underlying economy for the normal working class thais is not great right now. So makes sense some of them turn to this work. No different than the uni girls working the clubs some nights for extra cash.
I never dress up but oh well. I got my fro, my shorts, some t shirt and my tats. But I speak the lingo and I am polite so I get by. Like u said – it is the small talk that helps. There won’t be much small talk at places like Botan without knowing some thai but one can still have a good time me thinks.

Next time I am there, I will ask the “Cheers” (honorable consort consultants) if they have seen a sudden increase in foreign visitors (on account of my postings here). Just want to make sure they don’t mind the extra business and of course I am sure they will reward me with a free “shower” for that.
Actually, rather not, much prefer remaining anonymous. They did though raise the price last year from 800 to 1,000 as someone noted and hopefully everyone does not spoil the market like the Japanese have done in many of the BKK night life places with over paying/tipping.
Nana has been written off for a couple of years since the Japanese invasion there and Cowboy is sure to fall soon too. Patpong by the way was written off long before some of you even started playing pocket pool, so don’t worry about that one.

P.S. – If you are looking for cheap lays, you can also get laid in Lolitas for 1,100 Baht. No double nut, no bed, no shower, and no beauties. But you if you only have 15 minutes left over on your 1 hour office-monkey lunch hour, then you can push one out and still be back to work on time.

P.S.S. And if you would like to see what kind of a shag that less than 1,000 Baht can buy you in the BKK, and you are not age sensitive, then try Saiphon Massage on New Petchburi. I have never taken a stab at it there myself so to speak, but I had a peek in there once after lightening my wallet in the Cozy.

for me s. botan was much less about cheap and more about getting off the beaten farang path. Friendly service, no nonsense, no one begging for tips, no double pricing and so on. The 1k all in was a bonus. Soi 7 BG seems to attract not so hot girls for the most part. Sure. Cheap. Willing. Some say dirty but very rarely hot. My girl at Botan was pretty damn cute. The other problem I have is looking around some time at the other riff raff in the BG – not all but some.

I’m in agreement on the quality in the Soi 7 BG, though the odd diamond drops by now & again.

Sao Botan was the 1st soapy I visited (Chao Phaya 3 in Thonburi is the only other one I have been to). Went to Sao Botan about 4 years ago when the 90 minute session was priced at 850 baht. Selection at Sao Botan was not as nice as CP3, but priced fairly.

never been to CP 3 but CP 1 and 2 are getting long in the tooth. meaning I never see any hotties. there are still some cuties in botan.

CP3 is in Thonburi further up river from the Thonburi Plaza. Taxi rides from the Sukhumvit area anywhere into Thonburi are brutal. Looking at my online Bkk map and tapping my 4 year old memory, I recall taking the river taxi from Saphan Taksin to the Pin Klao Pier. Exiting the river taxi at the pier, it’s a short taxi ride to the CP3 soapy.
If you like walking, it’s about a 20 minute stroll from the pier. Stay to the right as you exit the pier, and walk up Pin Klao Road past the university on the right. As you bear right on Arun Amarin Road, you’ll see the Valentine and Snow White soapies on the opposite side of Arun Amarin. CP3 is just a little farther down Arun Amarin Road.
When I visited about 4 years ago, I was looking for something out of the farang area, and I spoke no Thai. The CP3 mamasan spoke excellent English, and came right over to me as I entered. (Unlike gogo mamasans, soapy mamasans seem to provide viable services).
Noting I was the only non-Asian client in the lobby, I asked mamasan to recommend ladies comfortable with farangs. She pointed out 3 or 4, and I selected one. Most ladies were of the tall, light-skin variety. I left satisfied for 1400 baht plus 200 tip to the lady(prices are probably higher now).
Good place to visit if you are comfortable speaking Thai. As a side note, the lady I was with spoke just enough English to tell me she was married with one child, and that her Thai husband didn’t like her occupation, but they needed the money. It’s a rare BG who owns up to supporting a husband.

I hear S. Botan’s price policy changed. There still are 1000THB girls to be had but these are reported to be the dogs. Cuter ones go for 1500 and even 2000!!!! Ain’t a good deal any longer…

I went to Botan about two months ago and I don’t think I will go back anytime soon. The young papasan was pushy and wanted you to take a girl quicky. I did not see any other farangs there. I was told that the girls were 1500 and 2000 with the girls to the left at 2500. I chose a girl in the 2000 range. It was a wash and bang experience and the girl spent more time at the mirror. Had to what for the room lady to take care of the room and she forgot her hair net and condoms. She would only do a CBJ no BBBJ and the service was something out of the back seat of a volkswagon. I was sorely disappointed. The girls did look good though. But now I am mostly an oily man. I do have my favorites at Krungthon Plaza which has a 1500 fixed price for 1.5 hours. 1200 before 6 pm. The service has always been excellent the girls are very attractive and the papasan is very helpful. I tipped him 500 on his first recommendation and 100 every time I go in. He does know his girls. This plaza has service girls in the restaurant, two karaoke bars and the MP. Top to bottom is loaded with girls especially after 10 o clock. I like my MP girls between 3 and 4 pm. You owe yourself to try this place. Forget Botan for now.
