Laguna is the dogs bollocks on a Sunday when the Indonesian maids are out to play. Neptune has good staff and a lot of top notch freelancers. Fenwick is the biggest but the management are dishonest and frankly horrible, the bouncers are tossers, and it's overrun with indentured Filipinas and trafficked pimped up Columbians. Joe Bananas is worth a look sometimes. New Makati & Boracay are generally quieter and can be a little sad, but you can turn up the odd gem. Bar George in Lan Kwai Fong is busy for ladies' night on Thursdays.

You might want to read this post - there are 4 parts:

http://www.bigmangobar.com/2006/09/27/8-days-in-hong-kong-part-1-of-3/

You can see all the stuff from other countries under this category:

http://www.bigmangobar.com/category/trip-report/

Or use the archives - look under categories and reader contributions for anything related to HK:

http://www.bigmangobar.com/archives/

or type hk into the search box or use this link:

http://www.bigmangobar.com/index.php?s=hong+kong

As for HK - there is not a scene like Nana or Cowboy. There are a few go go like bars in Wan Chai district but they are horrible and overpriced. I would avoid them like the plague but you can go to a few to get some drinks and check it out.

If you are looking to pull just go to the freelancer discos in Wan Chai like Fenwick, Laguna, Bridge and all the other ones in the area. U can spend days roaming around Wan Chai.

For proper clubbing I would pick up a copy of HK Magazine, a freebie found in all the coffee shops, which will list all the clubs and the various nights that are happening.

I am sure others might chime in on this one.

thanks!

I flew Thai Air Asia and the flight was on time both ways - first time for me with that airline. Macau Airport is neat too - modern, convenient and small.

The friend I went to meet in Macau is a Filipina who used to work as a DH in Hong Kong. In Macau she has three jobs and is making a relative fortune. She's got no need to hang out in the night clubs.

A minor interesting point: although there are many Filipina and Indonesian DHs in Macau there they don't hang out downtown on their day off. The scene in Central, HK and elsewhere is amazing (likewise Lucky Plaza in Singapore.)

I asked my friend about it and she said it's because most Macau DHs don't live in their employer's apartment. They share apartments and tend to stay home at weekends cooking and watching videos. In HK and Singapore they live in and can't wait to leave on a Sunday.

Thanks for the post- Macau is hard to figure out if you are unfamiliar with the "lay of the land". But it is too pricey for me. I prefer a thirty dollar short time wrestle in one of the zillions of whore houses in Mong Kok (just north of Kowloon/Hong Kong.
Although I love Chinese girls, for me, nothing beats the lively party scene of Bangkok or Pattaya. But, if I am ever in Macau again, I will take your advice.
Thank you!

You're right Arthur.

What is happening to Macau is amazing. The place is 'flat-out' and definitely worth a visit. But as you say 'pricey'in comparison to the LOS.
On my last visit there in Nov'06 I also ventured through the border into Zhuhai which is less commercial but just as accomodating. They have a Walking Street and a Bar Street all of which were packed with opportunity and very reasonable.I think the changes that are happening there will continue at a crazy pace and expect a totally different experience next time I visit.
Also, good choice from Bkk with AirAsia flying direct to Macau at about 2000 baht each-way if a change of scenery is required for a couple of days.

Ha! Thanks for the pointer to the nightclubs. Part timers are much more my cup of tea. When/if I go back I'll be sure to check them out.

To the above four categories one could also add Karaoke's/Night Clubs (eg China City HK$1300-1800 for main room, two hours of beers, girl, short time room, drinks & return HK ferry ticket) and discos (eg DD's, many freelancers of all varieties, Indonesian/Filipina part timers).
